I've used a version of this assignment as well - it was a 2 session class, adding in a component where students had to find existing data (Pew, Social Explorer, etc.) and represent it visually to tell a potentially different story.

Short Description

This workshop provides an introduction to creating infographics using Piktochart and includes advice on selecting a design, incorporating data, and structuring a story.

Learning Outcomes

1. Participants will view and critique examples of infographics, in order to gain exposure to best practices in infographic design. 2. Participants will utilize the basic features of Piktochart, in order to gain experience employing best practices in infographic design.

I really like the exercise where you have the students identify the strong/weak elements and generate a list. I did a similar workshop but that part of my workshop was not nearly interactive enough. I plan to use you your example next time. Thanks for sharing this!
