The ETS® Proficiency Profile assesses four core skill areas: critical thinking, reading, writing, and mathematics--with a little bit of information literacy-- in a single test that the Voluntary System of Accountability (VSA) has selected as a gauge of general education outcomes. Option to add an essay to the ETS Proficiency Profile assessment is available as well as up to 50 locally authored questions. Fixed-choice questions, with a 40-minute version or a 2-hour version available. Cost is $12.50-$16.50 per student. 

 The Standardized Assessment of Information Literacy Skills (SAILS) test is a fixed-choice national test There are two forms of the SAILS information literacy test, one for individual test results, and one for groups (cohorts) of students. Both tests are based directly on the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. Cost is $5 per student for the cohort test and $6 per student for the individual test.

Academic librarians from across North America continued to expand assessment practices through their participation in the Association of College and Research Libraries’ (ACRL) three-year program, Assessment in Action: Academic Libraries and Student Success (AiA). Rubric Assessment of Information Literacy Skills (RAILS) is an IMLS-funded research project designed to investigate an analytic rubric approach to information literacy assessment in higher education.  The RAILS project is intended to help academic librarians and disciplinary faculty assess information literacy outcomes. 

The Information Literacy Assessment & Advocacy Project (ILAAP) is an assessment tool designed to investigate the information literacy skills of first and second-year post-secondary students.
