1. Introduction
This Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) applies to all CORA branded websites and is intended to aid any and all CORA users (registered or not) in understanding how the contents found in CORA may be used. All users of CORA must comply with this AUP, the purpose of which is to encourage the reuse of CORA materials while also helping to protect CORA Contributors from illegal or irresponsible activities.
Violation of this AUP may result in:
- The suspension and/or termination of access to CORA services and features and/or
- CORA's notification to the violator's home institution of the abuse of CORA's services or features and/or
- Other actions deemed appropriate by CORA.
2. Acceptable Use
CORA is a free and open resource designed primarily for faculty and librarians in higher education. CORA is built on the collaboration of its community of contributors and allows access to its site and the materials therein for personal and non-commercial uses as set forth in this policy. CORA is committed to improving the effectiveness of teaching and learning by expanding access to high quality teaching and learning materials that can be easily incorporated into faculty or librarian-designed courses.
By using CORA, you agree to the terms outlined in CORA's AUP and promise to use any content found on the CORA website, whether in whole or in part, for personal, non-commercial, and educational purposes only as described in this policy. You also agree to comply with prevailing United States laws regarding copyright and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998.
All issues, disputes actions, or any other matters related to the interpretation of the content of this Policy are at the sole discretion of CORA.

3. Violations of Acceptable Use
The following constitute violations of this AUP:
- Providing services for a fee using CORA materials or those materials found on the CORA website, with exceptions noted in this policy.
- Sending unsolicited commercial email, bulk or mass email (more than 3) to CORA registered contributors or using a CORA email or website address to distribute commercial email.
- Sending large volumes of unsolicited email, bulk or mass email (more than 3) for commercial or non-commercial purposes to CORA members, based on collection from the CORA website, of CORA contributor data.
- Using CORA services to harm, or attempt to harm, minors in any way.
- Using CORA services or products to make fraudulent offers to buy or sell items or services found at CORA.
- Collecting, either manually or through automated processes (harvesting), CORA material or member data.
- Accessing and using CORA member profiles or collecting personal data from or about CORA's registered contributors without proper authorization.
- Reselling CORA products, services, features, or site contents without CORA's written permission.
3a. Violations Related to Posting content to CORA Including comments
The following constitute additional violations of this AUP:
- Inappropriate Content: All content posted to the CORA website must be focused on the topic of higher education and teaching in general, and users’ experiences and discussions as they relate to these topics. Content that is not appropriate includes, but is not limited to, advertising (see below), material copyrighted by someone other than the submitter, or any content that, without pedagogical value, is vulgar, obscene, or contains adult themes or images.
Abusive language, name-calling, insults, harassment, and personal attacks will not be tolerated. Further, members are prohibited from making posts or comments that encourage this type of behavior.
CORA reserves the rights to single-handedly take appropriate measures, including deleting content, blocking any member from posting to our site, and/or revoking membership for any behavior we determine to be damaging to our community.
- Advertising: It is not appropriate to advertise any business, products, or services in CORA comments. It is acceptable to mention a business on one’s own profile page or blog posts, but not elsewhere on the website. CORA will delete any content construed as advertising.

4. User Obligations
4a. Abide by Applicable Laws
In connection with the use of CORA, you are required to abide by all applicable federal, state, or local laws, including those pertaining to such areas as libel, slander, defamation, trade libel, product disparagement, harassment, invasion of privacy, tort, obscenity, indecency, and copyright or trademark infringement.
4b. Online Communications
You are cautioned that any online communications may not be fully confidential. You should also be aware that federal postal regulations do not protect electronic mail. Also be aware that as a part of their regular duties, CORA personnel may access your personal profile, and/or communications for technical or operational purposes. CORA may also disclose any information discovered through such access to the extent permitted or required by law.
4c. Content of Information
You are responsible for any content you sumbit to CORA. CORA has no obligation to monitor any material that is or becomes available in CORA. CORA reserves the right to review any material that is or becomes available on the site. CORA reserves the right to refuse to post or to remove any materials that are, in our judgment, unacceptable, undesirable, or in violation of this policy.
However, CORA has no obligation to exercise such reservation of rights. CORA will, in appropriate circumstances, terminate the accounts of users who infringe the intellectual property rights of others. CORA may terminate access for contributors who are found to repeatedly provide material without necessary rights or permissions.
If you believe that your work has been used or copied in a way that violates this AUP, or constitutes copyright infringement, please notify CORA at contactprojectcora@gmail.com with "CORA AUP/Copyright Violation" in the subject line. For CORA to act on your notice, you must be authorized to enforce the copyrights that you allege have been infringed. When informing CORA of an alleged infringement:
- Identify the copyrighted work that allegedly has been infringed. If multiple copyrighted works at a single online site are involved, please provide a representative list of such works on the site.
- Describe the material that is claimed to be infringing and provide sufficient information to permit CORA to locate that material.
- Include your contact information: your name, email address, telephone number, and mailing address.
- Certify or include a statement that you have a good faith belief that the use of the copyright-protected material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, the owner's agent, or law.
- Certify that the information that you have provided CORA is accurate. Attest under penalty of perjury that you are authorized to enforce the copyrights that you allege have been infringed.
- Include your physical or electronic signature.
Without the information listed above, CORA may not be able to act on your complaint promptly, or at all.
5. Policy Enforcement
If you know or have reason to believe that there has been a violation of this AUP, please contact CORA at contactprojectcora@gmail.com. Please provide as much information as possible such as:
- The date and time of the alleged violation.
- Evidence of the alleged violation, preferrably screenshots.
- Name, IP address, or URL of alleged violator.
- Links to pages containing or having contained the violation.
The absence of such information may render CORA unable to act upon your report of violation.
6. Modifications
This policy may be modified, at any time without notice, by CORA and such modifications will be binding to all registered members of CORA when published on the CORA website.
